1. How is it that the Obama Administration can open up stem cell research and a religious war has not broken out in this country. Could it be with the Bushies out of power there is no one around to stoke the inevitable bonfire that would have occurred during those eight years. Those of you who had been hiding your science books behind the bookcase can now dust them off,
2. I will be in Clearwater Florida this week which reminds me of that poor Terry Schivo. I happened to be there in her last days when the protesters were brought out by the fear mongerers. Was there anything more despicable during those eight years than when congress came back into session over this issue? People by the hundreds were being killed in Iraq and there was no rush to do anything about that.
3. I have a theory about the recent outbreak of trouble in Northern Ireland. The relative peace we have seen in the north came as a response to the Celtic tiger economy in the south. The north wanted a part of that. Now that Ireland’s economy is taking a big hit its back to form for a few people. I guess everything really is all about the money.
4. What is “the media” these days? The lines have been blurred for some time but Jon Stewart obliterated the remaining chalk this past week. He destroyed that dude from CNBC. The Dude comes out in full TV ego regalia, sleeves rolled up, tie loose like he was ready for a heavyweight fight. Yea, he was ready, like Jerry Quarry used to be ready. How sad is it that a “comedian” has become one of our best broadcast interviewers?
5. If our local newspaper, The South Bend Tribune, gets any thinner I will not be able to use it under the cat litter.
6. I am already sick of the NCAA basketball tournament and it hasn’t even started. Just way too much hype for me, who is on the bubble, who fell off the bubble, who cares! The big time NCAA sports, football and basketball, are too big for me. The players should be paid if it is going to be this big. Of course I might be down on basketball because of the hugely disappointing season Notre Dame had. Speaking of Notre Dame, if you get the chance go see their hockey team in either the conference championship (CCHA this coming weekend in Detroit) or the NCAA tournament. They are a good team in a college sports that is just the right size. The NCAA tournament starts with 16 teams at four sites and the tournament is played over a total of two weekends.
7. Speaking of ‘March Madness” the NCAA tourney is, in my view, the biggest culprit in making the high school basketball tournaments around the country less noteworthy. Too bad. Here in Indiana “Hoosier Hysteria” exists now in name only.
8. The recessions has proven that I was right all along. If I don’t have any money, I can’t loose any money.
9. How come I am not all worked up in a lather over Bernie Madoff? Could it be that I think many of his victims should have smelled a rat? Seriously shouldn’t questions have been asked about how all that money was supposedly being made?
10. A couple of weeks ago Jack Cafferty (I like Jack) on CNN admitted he was smitten by Michelle Obama. Sorry pal, I was in line way ahead of you. I am so smitten that if it came down to having dinner with Bruce Springsteen or Michelle Obama I think I would have to tell His Bossness that I would see him at the concert.
